Let’s remember that behind every data there are people

Today I want to talk about a fundamental aspect of Business Intelligence that we sometimes tend to forget:

Behind every data, graph or report, there are real people.

In our world of numbers, analysis and trends, it is crucial to remember that we are ultimately making decisions that will affect human beings.

Business Intelligence (BI) is a powerful tool that allows us to analyze data, discover patterns, and make more informed decisions.

However, as we dive into the world of KPIs, metrics and projections, it’s easy to lose sight that the numbers represent the activity of real people, both customers and employees.

Here are some reasons to remember this core BI principle:

1. Better Customer Experience:

When we remember that behind every data point is a customer with needs and expectations, we are more inclined to make decisions that improve their experience. BI allows us to understand our customers, their preferences and their behaviors, which in turn helps us offer them better products and services.

2. Human resources management:

Internally, BI is also applied to human resources management. Data on employee performance, job satisfaction, and employee turnover, for example, is vital to an organization’s success.

Remembering that these numbers represent individuals with careers and aspirations helps us make more equitable and humane decisions.

3. Ethics and Responsibility:

Ethics is a key component in the use of BI. When we recognize that our analytics can have a direct impact on people’s lives, we become more aware of the importance of data privacy and security. Protecting people’s information becomes a priority.

4. Effective communication:

BI is often used to support decisions and present reports to colleagues and superiors. When we remember that we are talking about people and their experiences, we are more effective in communicating our findings and recommendations. Empathy and clarity become powerful tools.
In summary, Business Intelligence is a valuable tool, but we must not forget that behind each data and graph there are human beings with their needs, desires and concerns. By keeping this human perspective in mind, we can make more informed and ethical decisions and build stronger relationships with our clients and teams.

Let's keep analyzing data, but never forget that it's also about people!
